The Haunting Of Hawks Ridge Hall: Book 3, A Lake Scugog Mystery
When Cissy discovers that an old school friend is back in town, and the reason behind it, she is fascinated to see inside her friend's ancestral home that, for many locals has always been shrouded in Mystery. Eve and Pam have plans to utilise the place to inform people about it's history, but are keen to extinguish some of the rumours circulating about their long departed relatives.
Mac and Jo are curious about the new residents, and are eager to find out the plans for Hawks Ridge Hall as they too are aware of its' supposed dubious history and are keen to find out if the gossip is true.
Meanwhile, a couple of spritely spirits make a re-appearance, when they suspect there is.more to the circumstances than meets the eye.....
I'm really loving this series, and book three with it's varied array of characters, both old and new, was something I was keenly anticipating. Even though the books are available, written for me to read whenever I wish, I have purposely been interspersing reading them with other novels so as to string the series out, as I enjoyed the first two books so much.
Once again, Maighread has provided readers with a well thought out, comprehensive, cosy Mystery. The way in which she is able to provide us with believable and mostly likeable characters each time throughout this wonderful Mystery series, not only giving them their own storyline, but then also bring in characters from the previous books and intertwine their lives into the narrative, whilst giving them all an equally important and full part to play, has made this series so far, a joy to read which I think would keep any reader coming back.
My favourite was undoubtedly Pam, she provided a real comedic touch with her sentimental southern drawl and her unexpected exclamations dropped in the middle of an otherwise normal section of dialogue, my favourite being 'confused as a fart in a fan factory'. The long term friendship between Cissy and Becca is still thriving, they continue to support each other in their 'beliefs', and with the introduction of Eve and Pam, the sisterhood is growing. Cissy and Mac's relationship has taken an interesting turn and the continuing evolvement of their connection having been a theme through much of the series, is a constant, as are the relationships between characters who have been a feature from book one.
It's a shame that the next books is the last, as I would be happy to continue reading about these characters forevermore. I am excited to see how it ends. I look forward to book number four.
