Christmas At Hummingbird House by Jane Harvey - Novelist
As Betty shops and prepares for a Christmas Dinner for three, herself, Mark and Jonty, it swiftly turns into four, when Betty learns that new tenant Joshua will, for the most part, be spending the day alone, and invites him too. As she begins to think about how the other tenants will be spending the big day, she decides to extend the invitation to Paul and April, who now have April's young niece living with them, and naturally, Kelly, Olive's mother would be with them, she assumed. The resourceful landlady of Hummingbird House hits on an ingenious idea to feed all her tenants, and anyone else who should pop by......warm clothing and a coat would most definitely be required though. Meanwhile, who is the mysterious gifter leaving their offerings whilst everyone is distracted?
Well, that was a very brief visit to one of my favourite literary fiction character groups. It was good to spend time catching up with the latest occurrences in Hummingbird House, two big changes in fact with Olive now living with Paul and April and the introduction of new tenant Joshua. These are two Iintriguing threads on which I am sure Jane will use to hang the narrative of the next novel, they give pause for thought and anticipation of what's to come. I have a few thoughts on newbie Joshua and it will be interesting to see how he is developed. I also started to wonder about the 'friendship' between Kelly and Paul... The biggest mystery though are the gifts being bestowed around the boarding house, and although we know who the benefactor is, the logical question is 'why'......my more random musing is are they connected with the person at the supermarket that Betty was talking to. My mind is working overtime now....I can't wait to find out!
